J. M. Brunswick

John Moses Brunswick ( * 1819 in Bremgarten / Switzerland, † 1886 in the U.S.) was an American entrepreneur and founder of Brunswick Corporation.

Emigration to the USA

J. M. Brunswick emigrated in 1834 at the age of only 15 years in the United States of America. He settled first in New York down and spent some time working as a messenger boy, before he found a job as an apprentice with a producer of wagons in Philadelphia. Finally, he moved with his family to Cincinnati, Ohio. There he worked for two years as a steward on a paddle steamer on the Ohio River.

Store Opening

1845 Opened J. M. Brunswick in Cincinnati operation " J. M. Brunswick Manufacturing " for the manufacture of wagons. A short time later, he first saw a billiard game and was immediately fascinated by the game. He decided that this was his chance to build something with almost unlimited potential. Narrated is his statement:

A short time later, J. M. Brunswick pool table before the first American-made, and thus laid the foundations for the popularity of the game in the United States. In 1990 it was posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Billiard Congress of America.
