J. Michael Luttig

J. Michael Luttig ( born June 13, 1954 in Tyler, Texas ) is an American lawyer and former federal judge on U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th District Court. After the withdrawal of the nomination of Harriet Miers, he was next to Samuel Alito, who has now been nominated as one of the favorites to succeed Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court.

Luttig graduated from Washington and Lee University and the University of Virginia School of Law law. He then worked briefly at the White House and then served for Antonin Scalia and Warren Burger as a trainee lawyer (law ​​clerk ) at the Supreme Court from 1985 to 1989, he worked as a lawyer and subsequently held various posts in the Ministry of Justice. 1991 appointed him U.S. President George HW Bush as Judge at the Federal Court of Appeals for the 4th Judicial District.

In May 2006, Luttig resigned as an appellate judge and has since worked as senior vice president and chief lawyer (general counsel ) of the air carrier's Boeing.
