J. Vernon McGee

John Vernon McGee (* June 17, 1904; † 1 December 1988) was an American evangelical clergyman.

He had the idea for the Thru the Bible Project ( German Through the Bible ), a Bible study radio program that leads listeners worldwide since 1967 in a verse -to- verse meeting through all 66 books of the Bible.

Life

McGee decided early to become a clergyman. After studying at Columbia Theological Seminary and Dallas Theological Seminary, he was ordained in the Southern Presbyterian Church. After working in the Presbyterian Church, he was in 1949 pastor of the Church of the Open Door in Los Angeles. The position he held until his retirement in 1970.

McGee preached from 1941 in the weekly radio show, The Open Bible Hour, which was then broadcast daily from 1949 under the name of High Noon Bible Class.
