J.O.B. Records

J.O.B. Records was an American blues and rhythm and blues record label that was founded in 1949 and existed until 1972.

The label J.O.B. emerged from the short-lived label Opera Records, the 1947/48 and consisted of James Burke Oden, as the " St. Louis Jimmy " Oden occurred, and Joe Brown was founded. The company had its headquarters in the Southside, 4008 South Ellis Avenue. For the Opera label Brown took on a mix of music from club pianist, jazz combos and rural blues musicians; also the later JOB label in the early '50s focused on the Southern blues.

In Opera, published recordings of Byllye Williams, St. Louis Jimmy with Roosevelt Sykes, Sunnyland Slim ( of here, contract reasons under the pseudonym " Delta Joe" recorded ) and King Kolax with his band, as well as the R & B band of the twins Ray "Bill" and Roy "Buck" Douglas. In October 1948, Joe Brown sold six master tapes to Savoy Records, probably all recordings of Byllye Williams.

For the JOB label Brown and Burke Oden took on artists of the Southern blues and urban R & B. A hit had the label in 1952 with " Five Long Years" by Eddie Boyd a number - one hit in the R & B charts. In 1950, Oden left the company; Brown led it with multiple partners. 1953 worked J.O.B. occasionally, with opportunity Records together. By the end of the label then only a few pictures were taken. In 1972 Joe Brown sold the label to Jewel Records; the last single was released in 1974.

When JOB were recordings by artists such as Willie Cobbs, Floyd Jones, King Kolax, JB Lenoir ( ' JB Lenore ', sic), Johnny Shines, Sunnyland Slim, Snooky Pryor, John Brim, Memphis Minnie, Robert Lockwood, Jr., Earl N Pugh and Eddie King. published. A compilation of 54 pieces JOB Blue was founded in 2001 under the title Rough Treatment: The JOB Records Story released on the UK label Westside ( WESD 233).

In 1950, in Louisiana, a eponymous label, but that has nothing to do with the Chicago-based label.
