Jaan Kikkas

Jaan Kika, even John " Juhan " Kikkas, ( born June 5, 1892 in Walk, Livonia, † March 9, 1944 in Tallinn) was an Estonian weightlifter.

Sports Performance

Jaan Kika began in 1921 with the weight lifting. He was at the World Championships 1922 in Tallinn, in fourth was able to increase its performance in the coming months though. The World Championship in Gothenburg in the following year was runner-up in Kika's light heavyweight division.

Kika won the bronze medal in the middleweight ( 75 kg ) at the Summer Olympic Games in 1924 in Paris at the age of 32 years. In this competition he placed in his third attempt with 127.5 kg on a new world record in the thrusting. The silver medal went to Kika ' compatriot Alfred Neuland. It was the only time that two Estonians won a medal in the same competition at the Olympic Games.

1925 Kika was Estonian champion in weightlifting. He arrived at the devastating Soviet air raid on Tallinn on March 9, 1944 lost their lives.
