Jaap Eden

Jacobus Johannes " Jaap " Eden (* October 19, 1873 in Groningen, † February 2nd 1925 in Haarlem ) was a speed skater and cyclist from the Netherlands.

Speed ​​Skating

Jaap Eden's sporting talent, whose father was physical education teacher, was 15 years old. He was invited by Klaas Pander, then the best Dutch speed skaters, for training.

In December 1890 Eden won at a short course championship (on a 160 m circular track ) his first success. At 17 he was admitted to the World Cup. Since 1890 it still was no international organization, this was carried out by the Amsterdam skating club, but only appeared two foreign runners. Eden reached while the third and fourth place over a half and a whole mile.
