Jaap Stam

Listen Jakob " Jaap " Stam? / I ( born July 17, 1972 in Kampen, Netherlands ) is a former Dutch football player.

Career

In the club

The central defender was once the most expensive defender in the world, moved from PSV Eindhoven for about 18 million euros for top British club Manchester United.

Stam "The Wall" ( engl. "The Wall " ) was called, an allusion to his good duel technique and good heading ability, which it was not difficult at a height of 191 cm.

After a dispute with United manager Sir Alex Ferguson Stam moved for € 25.75 million for Italian Serie A club Lazio. Alex Ferguson admitted, however, in 2010 that he regretted the sale.

In 2002, Stam was blocked due to abuse of doping for several months.

He later moved to 10.5 million euros for AC Milan, where he was until the end of the 2005/06 season under contract.

For the season 2006/ 07 Jaap Stam returned for nearly 3 million euros to his home, where he signed a contract signed with the Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam. On 29 October 2007 Stam announced his immediate career end.

In the National Team

His debut in the Dutch national football team was Jaap Stam on 24 April 1996 at 0-1 against the German national team in Rotterdam. In the Euro 2000 Stam missed a penalty in the semi-final against Italy. His retirement from the national team, he announced after the Euro 2004. Jaap Stam graduated 67 international matches and scored three goals.
