Jabal Amel

Jabal Amel ( ar: جبل عامل, sometimes listed as Jabal Amil ) is the historical name of southern Lebanon up to the establishment of modern Lebanon in 1920.

Name

Jabal Amel means mountains of Amil and is named after the tribe of " Amila " (also Banu Amela ) named. This mountainous region is mainly inhabited by Shiites .. Jabal Amel is also synonymous with the northern part of the historic Galilee.
