Jabez Upham

Jabez Upham ( born August 23, 1764 in Brookfield, Worcester County, Massachusetts, † November 8, 1811 ) was an American politician. Between 1807 and 1810, he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jabez Upham was the older brother of Congressman George B. Upham (1768-1848) and a cousin of Charles Wentworth Upham (1802-1875), Member of Congress was also. He studied until 1785 at Harvard University. After studying law and qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in Sturbridge in this profession. About Claremont then he returned to Brookfield, where he also practiced law. Politically, he was a member of the late 1790s, founded by Alexander Hamilton Federalist Party. Between 1804 and 1806 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Massachusetts.

In the congressional elections of 1806 Upham was in the tenth constituency of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Seth Hastings on March 4, 1807. After a re-election, he could remain until his resignation in 1810 in Congress. In 1811 Upham was again a deputy in the State Parliament. He died on November 8, 1811 in his home town of Brookfield.
