Jablonov

Jablonov ( German apple village, Hungarian Szepesalmás - to 1907 Almás ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 992 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011) and belongs to Okres Levoča kraj a circle of Prešov.

Geography

The municipality is located in the northern part of the basin Hornádska kotlina at the foot of northern Levočské mountains by the brook Vavrincov creek, in the traditional landscape Zips. The center is located at an altitude of 481 m nm and is four kilometers from Spišské Podhradie and 14 km from Levoča located ( road distance ).

History

Jablonov was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1235 as Alma, when the king Andrew II to place the chapter gave Zipser ( other sources speak only of 1249 ). After the devastating Mongol invasion of 1241, there was an influx of German colonists. 1318 was the place market rights and developed as a town, after an uprising against the Zipser provost in 1388 lost apple village these rights.
