Jack Albertson

Jonathan " Jack" Albertson ( born June 16, 1907 in Malden, Massachusetts, † November 25, 1981 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California ) was an American actor, dancer and musician. As a performer, the artist was awarded with all prestigious awards such as the Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award.

Life

Albertson was born to Jewish parents. His mother was a Russian immigrant, his father, a Polish immigrant. He had an older sister, Mabel Albertson, and a brother, Frank Albertson, both also actors. After high school he went to become an actor in New York City. Since he had no money and no job, he had to stay in the park underground and in the summer in Central in winter. His first job in show business was in a street troupe "the Dancing versal Sisters".

About this group he found his way to Broadway. At that time he played among others in: Top Banana, The Cradle Will Rock, Make Mine Manhattan, Show Boat, Boy Meets Girl, Girl Crazy, Meet the People, The Sunshine Boys ( for this role he received a Tony Award nomination as Best Actor), and The Subject Was Roses ( where he then won the Tony Award ). For the film adaptation of the play in 1969, he won an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor. The same time he still worked for the radio Just Plain Bill and The Jack Albertson Comedy Show. In 1947, he began his career in film.

Albertson died at the age of 74 years during the filming of My Body, My Child. His body was cremated and the ashes were scattered over the Pacific Ocean.
