Jack Cohen (businessman)

Jack Cohen ( born October 6, 1898 in Whitechapel, London, † 24 March 1979) was a British entrepreneur.

Life

Cohen comes from a Jewish family. His father came from a Polish immigrant family that emigrated to England. Cohen founded in 1919, the British retailer Tesco. The name Tesco he developed in 1924, when he a great amount of tea from TE Stockwell had bought. He designed new labels for tea, with the name for it from the initials of the supplier ( TES) followed by the first two letters of his own surname (CO) composed.

1969 Cohen was knighted. Cohen was married and had two daughters.
