Jack Cummings (director)

Jack Cummings ( born February 16, 1900 in New Brunswick, Canada, † April 28, 1989 in Los Angeles, California, USA) was an American film producer.

Life

Jack Cummings was the nephew of MGM boss Louis B. Mayer. Despite this familial connection Cummings worked first as a simple clerk. By the time he worked his way up the career ladder, to the management of the short film department of the studio. Here he produced and directed several comedies (including the Three Stooges ) and documentaries. From 1934 he produced then full-length feature films. For some of the most famous MGM musicals Cummings was responsible.

Cummings was with Betty Kern, daughter of composer Jerome David Kern, married. The musical Roberta his father- he filmed in 1952 under the title Lovely to Look AT. Until 1964 he was involved in the production of 38 feature films. There was a twelve -year hiatus, until it one last time in 1976 for Pipe Dreams took over the production.

Awards

1955 Jack Cummings was able to receive Best Picture as producer of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers the Oscar in the category. A year earlier, he was awarded an honorary Golden Globe.
