Jack Dalrymple

John "Jack" Dalrymple ( born October 16, 1948 in Minneapolis, Minnesota ) is an American politician ( Republican) and since December 7, 2010 Governor of North Dakota. Previously, he had held since December 2000, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor in the state.

Life

Jack Dalrymple grew up on the family farm in Casselton (North Dakota). This was created in 1875 as the first large-scale wheat farm in what was then Dakota Territory. He attended Yale University and received there the Bachelor of Science in American Studies. He then returned to North Dakota and took care of the operation of the family farm. He also worked for the Labour Market Commission of Casselton and co-founded an institution for the treatment of former drug and alcohol addicts. In 1983 he was awarded the most outstanding young farmers in the United States.

His political career began with the arrival in the House of Representatives from North Dakota, where he eight legislatures belonged from 1985. In the meantime, he applied in 1992 in a by-election to the mandate of the late U.S. Senator Quentin N. Burdick, but was defeated by Democrat Kent Conrad significantly. In 2000 he was elected as running mate of John Hoeven for lieutenant governor of his state; Together with this, he was confirmed in each case in the Office 2004 and 2008.

Governor Hoeven successfully ran for the Senate election in November 2010 for the successor of not more antretenden Democrats Byron Dorgan and in January 2011 his mandate in Washington DC take over. As planned, he handed over the governorship in December 2010 to his former deputy Dalrymple. This named former federal prosecutor Drew Wrigley to his own successor as lieutenant governor.

Jack Dalrymple is married and has four daughters.
