Jack Elliott (composer)

Irwin Elliott sugar ( born August 6, 1927 in Hartford, Connecticut; † August 18, 2001 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American jazz pianist, composer and arranger.

Biography

Irwin sugar Elliott was born in Hartford, Connecticut. After graduating from the Hartt School of Music Elliott worked as a jazz pianist and studied with Arnold Franchetti, Isadore Freed, Bohuslav Martinů and Lukas Foss. However, it was Judy Garland who hired him from New York City to Los Angeles to win him as an arranger for their Judy Garland Show. After further engagements such as the The Andy Williams Show and Live From Studio 8H: 100 Years of America 's Popular Music Elliott began with the film composition.

At the Academy Awards in 1965 Elliott, Robert Armbruster, Leo Arnaud, Jack Hayes, Calvin Jackson and Leo Shuken received a nomination for Best Original Score for their musical collaboration in the musical film Gold Diggers Molly.

On August 18, 2001 Elliott died of a brain tumor. He is buried in Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery.
