Jack Haley

John Joseph Haley ( born August 10, 1898 in Boston, † June 6, 1979 in Los Angeles ) was an American actor.

Life

Haley began his career in vaudeville. There he appeared as a singing and dancing comedian. In the early 1930s Haley starred in comedy short films ( Vitaphone ). In 1936 he played with Shirley Temple in Poor Little Rich Girl, two years later in the film adaptation of Alexander 's Ragtime Band. In 1939 he took over the role of the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz. Buddy Ebsen, who was supposed to play the role which was given by the tin dust contained in the makeup of serious health problems and had to give up the role.

Haley was married from 1921 until his death Florence McFadden, from the marriage came a son and a daughter out. Haley's son, the movie producer Jack Haley Jr., was married from 1974 to 1979 with Liza Minnelli. Gloria Haley published in 1978 under the title The Heart of the Tin Man, the biography of her father.

Jack Haley died on June 6, 1979 in Los Angeles, and was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City.
