Jack Hyles

Jack Hyles (* 1926 in Italy (Texas ), † 2001) was an American Baptist minister and representatives of Christian fundamentalism.

Life

Hyles was 1959, the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Hammond. During his tenure as pastor, the church grew from initially a few hundred to last more than 20,000 worshipers. One reason was its aggressive missionary activity, the so-called " bus - mission." This Hyles children had to pick up buses from near and far and bring in his church in the children's service.

Originally Hyles belonged to the religious community of the Southern Baptist Convention, but then the American Baptist Conference turned to him. Ultimately Hyles broke with two forms of the American Baptist, as both religious communities appeared to him too little fundamentalist. He was one of the leaders of the Independent Fundamental Baptists. This movement took very strong Christian fundamentalist views.

Hyles founded several religious-minded schools in Hammond and was named after him Hyles -Anderson College.
