Jack Kid Berg

Jackie "Kid" Berg ( born June 28, 1909 in London as Judah Bergman, † 22 April 1991 ) was a British boxer.

Professional career

The Mountain Jew was fourteen years old in the East End of London professional and quickly acquired as a typical Pressure Fighter a reputation as a crowd favorite with spectacular non-stop attack boxes ( " Whitechapel Whirlwind" ).

From 1928 he boxed mainly in the United States. Against Billy Petr Olle he managed a draw in the rematch he went first KO. The following year he hit the light welterweight champion Mushy Callahan in a non-title fight.

In January 1930, he also won against Tony Canzoneri and then got a title shot against Callahan, which he won on February 18, 1930 by TKO in the tenth round. He defended the title six times, but his most famous fight was his victory in a non-title fight against, but much smaller, undefeated in 160 amateur and professional fights Cuban Kid Chocolate.

But in 1931 he was defeated Canzoneri in the rematch by knockout and lost the third battle. He struck again in 1932 Kid Chocolate just for points, but otherwise could never build on its great times, even though he continued until 1945, still boxed. The Ring Magazine keeps him despite his very brief heyday for the fifth- best Halbweltergewichtler of all time.

After the pit

Berg was versatile active after his active career: He was in the Royal Air Force, had a restaurant in London and worked as a stunt man and bit player for the film - he had already played two guest roles in 1933.
