Jack Klugman

Jacob Joachim " Jack" Klugman (* April 27, 1922 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † December 24, 2012 in Northridge, California ) was an American film and television actor. He became known primarily by the title role of Dr. R. Quincy in the TV series Quincy.

Professional career

Klugman comes from a Jewish petit bourgeois family in Philadelphia and began his career, after he had served in World War II in the United States Army. In his time as an aspiring actor in New York City in the late 1940s Klugman shared an apartment temporarily with his colleague Charles Bronson (then Charles Dennis Buchinsky ).

Klugman was primarily for his role as a sports writer Oscar Madison in the U.S. television series The Odd Couple (orig. The Odd Couple) announced that aired in Germany on ZDF. His partner in the series was Tony Randall as Felix Unger. The series was produced from 1970 to 1975 and was based on Neil Simon's play " The Odd Couple " (1965), the 1968 film starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.

Subsequently Klugman received other offers for roles in comedic television series, but decided aware after the success of men's economic contrast. Instead, he took on the role of the coroner Dr. R. Quincy in the eponymous television series Quincy, which was produced from 1976 to 1983 and that was for him an equally great success.

Since the death of Jack Warden on 19 July 2006 Klugman was the last surviving performer of the cast of the legal drama Twelve Angry Men by Sidney Lumet. Originally Klugman should play again in March 2012 in the play " Twelve Angry Men ". But few days before he canceled for health reasons and died in the same year.

Private

As Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple Klugman was a fan of horse racing in real life. One of his horses, Jaklin Klugman, won in 1980 after several victories several awards.

1984 was diagnosed with throat cancer Klugman. He was operated on the vocal cords in 1989, with part of his larynx had to be removed. After that Klugman was forced to learn to speak again.

Klugman in 2005 published a book on the long-standing friendship with his colleague Tony Randall Tony And Me: A Story of Friendship. Klugman says in Randall that this was the best friend he had ever had. He wrote to each other about their working relationship and always about how good Randall was after his cancer surgery to him.

Jack Klugman married in 1953 Brett Somers, with whom he had two sons. In 1974 they separated, but never divorced. On February 2, 2008, he married at the age of 85 years, his long -time partner Peggy Crosby after Somers had died on 15 September 2007.

Jack Klugman died on Christmas Eve 2012 at the age of 90 years. He was cremated, with the grave location is unknown.
