Jack Maxsted

John "Jack" Albert Maxsted ( born April 30, 1916 in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey, England; † September 2001 in Bath, Somerset, England ) was a British art director and production designer who won an Oscar for Best Production Design.

Life

Maxsted began his career as an art director and production designer in 1939 in films such as Sons of the Sea and Inquest and worked until 1979 at the scenic features of more than 40 films.

In 1972 he won with John Box, Vernon Dixon, Ernest Archer and Gil Parrondo an Academy Award for Best Production Design, and indeed for the staged by Franklin J. Schaffner historical film Nicholas and Alexandra (1971 ) about Czar Nicholas II of Russia and his wife Alexandra Michael Jayston, Janet Suzman and Roderic Noble in the lead roles.
