Jack Nance ( born December 21, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts, † 30 December 1996 in Pasadena, California; actually Marvin John Nance ) was an American film and television actor, who has worked mainly with David Lynch.

Nance had stage experience in 1970 when he took on his first role in the movie Fools. His first starring role brought him David Lynch, who cast him in his very bizarre masterpiece Eraserhead (1977). After that, he only played in a major film an important role in Barbet Schroeder and that 's Barfly in 1987.

In 1984, he again worked with Lynch, in its ( commercial ) flop Dune - Dune (1984). 1986 both worked together again: In Blue Velvet Nance can be seen as a gangster Paul. In 1990 he played the role of Pete Martell in the cult series The Twin Peaks ( Twin Peaks ). Although there are only two main characters, but were numerous other characters in the series, Nance left a lasting impression, perhaps because he says the first set in the series and the "most beautiful body in television history " takes place.

It was followed by appearances in Wild at Heart as the Mad 00Spool, and in Lost Highway as Phil Nance was married in first marriage to Catherine E. Coulson, the Twin Peaks followers would be known as the " Log Lady ". His second wife Kelly Jean Van Dyke, daughter of Jerry Van Dyke, committed suicide in November 1991. Shortly after the filming of Lost Highway was Jack Nance hurt so badly in a fight in front of a donut shop in Los Angeles by two men at the head, that he drew upon a strong trauma that later in his apartment cost him little life.
