Jack Peñate

Jack Fabian Peñate [ pənjɑ teɪ ː ] ( born September 2, 1984 in London ) is a British singer -songwriter.

Peñate grew up in an artistic family, he is the grandson of the writer Mervyn Peake. With nine years he worked in the musical Oliver! in London's West as a member of the youth gang with. As a teenager he played with school friends in a band called Jack 's Basement. Among them was the later Maccabees guitarist Felix White.

During the university years, where he had embarked on a hopeless Latin studies, which he finally gave up, he started a musical solo career. He joined the Young Turks from label and released his debut single Second, Minute or Hour, which introduced him equally successful. The larger indie label XL Recordings took him under contract and then released his debut album Matinée. It reached # 7 on the UK charts, as did the first single Torn on the Platform.

While Pénates contained first album still pop in the tradition of the 1980s with influences from ska to rockabilly, he took for his second album a big change in style and named it accordingly Everything Is New. African and Brazilian elements and even House are included and the guitar is no longer the main instrument. Although this album and two singles entered the charts, he thus fell short of his debut.

Jack Peñate has with bassist Joel Porter and drummer Alex Robins two accompanying musicians with whom he always occur together.

Along with artists such as Lily Allen, Jamie T, Kate Nash, Adele, among others, it is often counted among the group of artists who sing in " Estuary English ". This is a young British musicians incurred in 2006/2007 style where they do not shed their original accent when singing, as do many other artists.
