Jack Reed (politician)

John Francis "Jack" Reed ( born November 12, 1949 in Providence, Rhode Iceland ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party. He has been part of his 1996 election to the Senate of the United States as a representative of Rhode Island at.

Youth and early career

Reed went to school in the La Salle Academy in Providence and then attended the United States Military Academy at West Point. Where he graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree. At the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, he received his master. In the military, he served in the 82nd Airborne Division as an Army Ranger and paratrooper.

Law and Politics

Reed left the Army in 1979 as Captain and visited after the Harvard Law School. In 1982 he graduated from there and then worked at Sutherland, Asbill and Brennan in Washington. Shortly thereafter, he moved back to Rhode Iceland to work at Edwards and Angell. In 1984, he managed to win a seat in the Senate of Rhode Iceland, where he remained until 1990. In 1990 he moved to the state in the U.S. House of Representatives. Particularly well known he was sure that he campaigned for state welfare in the areas of education and health care. When Senator Claiborne Pell announced to not run again, Reed running for the job. He won the election as well as his re- election in 2002 and 2008 with ease.

Reed sits in the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs and is a member of the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.

The Americans for Democratic Action have Reed several times as a "hero " because he was one of the most liberal voting in the Senate.
