Jack Thompson (actor)

Jack Thompson ( born August 31, 1940 in Manly, Sydney, as John Hadley Payne ) is an Australian actor.

Life

Jack Thompson was born in 1940 when John Hadley Payne in Manly, a suburb of Sydney and attended Sydney Boys High School. He changed his name to Thompson when he was adopted.

For many years, Jack was part of a " ménage à trois ", which in addition to his wife Leona King whose sister Bunkie belonged. Thompson's first professional engagement as an actor had a role in the soap opera Motel of 1968. 1971 he then had the lead role in the spy series Spyforce.

Jack Thompson was also known for his roles in Australian films Sunday Too Far Away, Breaker Morant and The Man from Snowy River. In 1980 he was awarded the Cannes Film Festival for Best Actor in a supporting role and is now considered a living legend.

He had his last major role in the 2008 film Australia as a likeable alcoholic who becomes a hero.
