Jack W. Szostak

Jack William Szostak ( born November 9, 1952 in London ) is a Canadian- American molecular biologist British- Polish descent, best known for his work on the enzyme telomerase.

He was awarded along with Elizabeth Blackburn and Carol W. Greider of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for 2009.

Training

Szostak was awarded in 1972 the title of Bachelor of Science at McGill University in Montreal, Canada in the field of cell biology. In 1977, he received Ph.D. doctoral degrees at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York for biochemistry. The following two years he was a research associate at Cornell University in the same field.

Awards

Szostak is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the New York Academy of Sciences.
