Jack Williams (American politician)

John Richard "Jack" Williams ( born October 29, 1909 in Los Angeles, California; † 24 August 1998) was an American politician ( Republican) and 1967-1975 Governor of the State of Arizona.

Early years and political rise

Jack Williams lost as a child his right eye, which had to be surgically removed him because of a tumor formation. His family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he attended Phoenix Junior College before he became in 1929 an employee at radio station KOY. He was 40 years as one of the most listened to radio announcer in Arizona and led the famous " This and That " comment. He always start this by saying: ". ! It's another beautiful day in Arizona Leave us all enjoy it " Williams was 1944-1947 Vice President of the Phoenix Housing Authority, and in 1946 president of the Phoenix Junior Chamber of Commerce. In 1956 he was elected mayor of Phoenix and held this office for two terms.

Governor of Arizona

He was elected in 1966 to the Governor of Arizona, and held the office until 1975., Williams was the first governor, who was elected for a four year term. He was a dedicated, conservative politician whose efforts were directed to strong economic growth in the state. He was also from 1970 to 1971 in the National Governors ' Conference Executive Committee operates. He held the office of the governor of Arizona from 2 January 1967 to 6 January 1975.
