The Jackson County is a county located in the state of Florida in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Marianna.

Geography

The county has an area of ​​2,472 square kilometers, of which 101 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Gadsden County, Calhoun County, Bay County, Washington County and Holmes County.

History

The Jackson County was formed on August 12, 1822 from parts of Escambia County. It was named after Andrew Jackson, general in the War of 1812, the first territorial governor of Florida and seventh President of the United States from 1829 bis 1837. September 27, 1864, the Battle of Marianna took place here during the Civil War.
