Jackson County (Kentucky)

Jackson County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is McKee. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in east-central Kentucky, is in the south about 80 miles from Tennessee, located in the southeast about 90 miles from Virginia and has an area of 898 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Estill County, Lee County, Owsley County, Clay County, Laurel County, Rockcastle County and Madison County.

History

Jackson County was formed on February 2, 1858 from parts of Clay County, Estill County, Laurel County, Madison County, Owsley County and Rockcastle County. It was named after President Andrew Jackson.
