Jackson County (Michigan)

Jackson County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Jackson.

Geography

The County is located in the south of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, is in the south and south-west about 50 miles from Ohio and Indiana, in the southeast about 75 km from Lake Erie, one of the five Great Lakes, away and has an area of 1875 square kilometers, of which 44 square kilometers water surface are. History

Jackson County was formed in 1832 from parts of Washtenaw County and free territory. It was named after Andrew Jackson, the seventh U.S. president.

The county is one of the so-called Cabinet counties since it was like some other named after a member of the Cabinet of President Andrew Jackson.
