Jackson County (Oklahoma)

The Jackson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Altus.

Geography

The County is located in southwestern Oklahoma, in the south as Texas and has an area of ​​2083 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Greer County, Kiowa County, Tillman County, Wilbarger County ( Texas), Hardeman County ( Texas) and Harmon County.

History

Jackson County was formed on July 16, 1907 from parts of Greer County and the Oklahoma territory. It was named after Thomas Jonathan Jackson, a general in the Confederate States of America.
