Jackson County (Tennessee)

Jackson County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Gainesboro.

Geography

The County is located north-west of the geographic center of Tennessee, is located in the north about 30 miles from Kentucky and has an area of 828 square kilometers, of which 28 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Clay County, Overton County, Putnam County, Smith County and Macon County.

History

Jackson County was formed on November 6, 1801 from parts of Smith County. It was named after Andrew Jackson, the seventh U.S. president.
