Jaco Van Dormael

Jaco Van Dormael ( born February 9, 1957 in Ixelles / Elsene, Belgium) is a Belgian writer and director for film and theater.

Work

Van Dormaels focus is the imaginary, told from the perspective of outsiders and people with disabilities.

His short film È pericoloso sporgersi 1985 Award at the Festival du Court - Métrage de Clermont -Ferrand with the Grand Prix.

For his first feature film Toto the hero he was awarded the Golden Camera (Best First Feature ) at the International Film Festival in Cannes. To have been the grown old Thomas ( Michel Bouquet and Jo De Backer ) remembers when he was born with his hated friend Alfred (Peter Bohlke and Didier Ferney ) reversed. Thomas ' life was as a sequence of failure like that of Alfred is one of success. He takes revenge.

In his second feature film On the eighth day meets Georges ( Pascal Duquenne ), a man with Down syndrome, who left in search of his mother's home, the successful, but privately severed businessman Harry ( Daniel Auteuil ), who according to him a accident takes her to his car. Harry, who is initially very distant, is aware that he has to learn from Georges over by many people without disabilities. Auteuil and Duquenne received 1996 in Cannes shared the award for Best Actor.

After the success at Cannes, Van Dormael dealt mainly with theater work. In 2009, he received an invitation to compete in the 66th Venice Film Festival for his film Mr. Nobody.

The guitarist died in 2008, Pierre Van Dormael was his brother.
