Jacob Georg Agardh

Jacob Georg Agardh ( born February 8, 1813 in Lund, † January 17, 1901 ibid ), and Jacob Georg Agardh, was a Swedish botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " J. Agardh ".

Life and work

Jacob Georg Agardh 1813, the son of the Swedish botanist, Carl Adolph Agardh ( 1785-1859 ) was born. He worked at the University of Lund and from 1854 to 1879 professor of botany. He put in the Botanical Garden of Lund and was also its director. Agardh published writings on many botanical areas; a focus was marine algae. Agardh in 1836 was elected a member of the Leopoldina.

Agardh was a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, 1867-1872 Member of the Swedish Parliament.

The plant genera Agardhiella Schmitz, Agardhinula De Toni and Neoagardhiella Wynne et WR Taylor have been named after him.
