Jacob Houck, Jr.

Jacob Houck Jr. ( born January 14, 1801 in Schoharie, New York, † October 2, 1857 ) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1841 and 1843 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jacob Houck Jr. was born in the early 19th century in Schoharie and grew up there. He attended community schools and then graduated in 1822 from Union College in Schenectady. Houck studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Schoharie. Between 1831 and 1836 he was district attorney in Schoharie County. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1840 for the 27th Congress Houck was in the eighth election district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded John Ely and Aaron Vanderpoel took on March 4, 1841 which had previously represented the eighth district together from New York in the U.S. House of Representatives. He retired after the March 3, 1843 out of the Congress. After his time Congress, he worked as a lawyer again. He died on October 2, 1857 in Schonharie and was then buried in the Lutheran Cemetery.
