Jacob Marrel

Jacob Marrel (* 1614 in Frankenthal, † 1681 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German painter of still lifes, which is known as the only student of Georg Flegel.

Life

Jacob Marrels eponymous father was a lawyer and town clerk in Frankenthal and his father Claude Marrel a jeweler from France. After the death of his father, the family moved in December 1624 to Frankfurt am Main, where Marrel 1627 became the only student Flegel. Later, painted around 1630 and he learned, lured by the local development in the field of still life, some time in Utrecht by Jan Davidsz. de Heem before 1651 in Frankfurt received the rights of citizenship and Johanna Sybilla Home (ius ), second wife and widow of Matthäus Merian the Elder. married.
