Jacob Miller (musician)

Jacob Miller ( born May 4, 1952 in Mandeville, † March 23, 1980 in Kingston, Jamaica ) was a Jamaican reggae singer and Rastafarian followers.

Life

Jacob Miller was born as the only child of his parents Joan Ashman and Desmond Elliot. His father, whom he never knew, was active as a singer under the synonym Sidney Elliott in England. He is also a cousin of the singer Maxi Priest.

The father left the family early, and at the age of eight years, Jacob Miller was sent to Kingston to live with his grandparents. While he attended the Kingston Melrose High School, he spent his spare time in the music studio, where known his friend Augustus Pablo next Joe Gibbs and King Tubby also made him the successful producer "Sir" Coxsone Dodd, for in 1968 at the age of thirteen years his first song called Love Is A Message recorded.

Career

After only mediocre successes Jacob Miller took until 1974 again studio recordings, which were produced by Augustus Pablo. From this period songs like Each One Teach One, Keep On Knocking, False Rasta, Who Say Jah No Dread and Baby I Love You So

Later, Jacob Miller lead singer of the band Inner Circle, whose occupation until he was recording constantly changed. On the first album of the band in 1974, Rock the Boat, Jacob Miller is mentioned alongside Phillip Thompson as a singer.

As for his solo career alongside Inner Circle originated in 1975 Miller's biggest successes Tenement Yard, in which he sings about the circumstances of the daily life of a Rastafarian in the Kingston ghettos and Tired Fe Lick Weed In A Bush, who against the illegality of the enjoyment of himself marijuana used in Jamaica.

In the reggae cult film Rockers Jacob Miller of 1978 occurs in a supporting role as " Jake " on ( at 1h 11min, while eating ) and sings as part of the plot in a restaurant also live with Inner Circle Tenement Yard (0h 41min ).

At the One Love Peace Concert 1978 Jacob Miller stood with Inner Circle next to Bob Marley and Peter Tosh on stage. After Inner Circle signed a contract with Chris Blackwell, after 1979, the album Everything is Great appeared in Iceland Records, which helped the band to an international breakthrough.

Blackwell planned, Inner Circle as a support for the American tour Bob Marley's use in 1980.

On March 23, 1980 Jacob Miller was killed with his car when he crashed in Kingston in Hope Road against a lamppost. Its already recorded album Mixed Up Moods, which should appear at the end of the year, was a rarity.
