Jacob Viner

Jacob Viner ( May 3, 1892 in Montreal, Canada, † September 12, 1970 ) was a Canadian- American economist.

Life

His parents were Romanians. He later became an American citizen. He received his Ph.D. in 1922 from Harvard University under Frank Taussig. In 1925 he became a professor at the University of Chicago, where Frank H. Knight taught. Along with Knight coined Viner, the first Chicago School. In 1946, he moved to Princeton. His publications revolve around international trade. He also served as a consultant with some American state organs. Building on the commercial model of David Ricardo, he developed the so-called Ricardo - Viner model ( Specific Factors Model).
