Jacobo Timerman

Jacobo Timmerman ben Nathan (* January 6, 1923, † 11 November 1999) was an Argentine publisher, journalist and author.

During the 70s, Timmerman published a newspaper that the crimes committed by the government of human rights violations in Argentina devoted, in particular the many missing people. He was subsequently imprisoned and beaten during interrogations and tortured with electric shocks. Timmerman held his experiences firmly in the published 1981 book Prisoner Without a Name, Cell Without a Number.

In 1980, Timmerman was awarded in recognition of its commitment to freedom of expression and freedom of the press of the Golden Pen of Freedom of the World Association of Newspapers.

After his release he emigrated to Israel, where he brought out the book The Longest War, a description of the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982.

His son, Héctor Timerman, also works as a writer and journalist, currently he is working as Foreign Minister of Argentina.
