Jacopo Nardi

Jacopo Nardi (* 1476 in Florence, † March 11 1563 in Venice ) was an Italian historian.

As a native Florentine Nardi was in his youth an ardent supporter of Girolamo Savonarola and remained throughout his life Republicans. He was a member 1527-30 of the republican government of Florence and was exiled in 1533 by Alessandro de ' Medici to Livorno. 1535, therefore, he protested to the Emperor Charles V. and lived almost exclusively in Venice. He wrote two comedies, a free translation of Livius Andronicus and two political treatises. His most important work is the writing " Istorie della cittá di Firenze ", a republican account of the history of the city of Florence from 1494 to 1532. You was published posthumously in 1582.
