Jacques Balmat
Jacques Balmat (* 1762 in Chamonix, † 1834 in Sixt -Fer -à- Cheval ) was a Savoyard Gamsjager, crystal hunters, climbers and finally mountain guide.
Balmat ascended together with the doctor Michel -Gabriel Paccard on August 8, 1786 as the first of Mont Blanc. This ascent of the highest mountain in the Alps and thus Europe outside the Caucasus ( on the border with Asia) were initiated by the Geneva scientist Horace - Bénédict de Saussure, the Balmat finally pointed the way to the mountain and led up two times. Even more people took on his mountain guide services claim, which was a crucial step in the start of mountaineering.
