Jacques Becker

Jacques Becker ( born September 15, 1906 in Paris, † February 21, 1960 ) was a French film director.

Life

1928 met Becker in the U.S. on King Vidor and was first confronted with the film, but later career as an actor and assistant director in the United States was denied him. He returned to his native France and was from 1931 to 1938 the assistant director Jean Renoir, this was his friend and coined Jacques Becker crucial. 1939 began Becker, turning to his first feature film " L' Or du Cristobal ", but the film could not complete because he was mobilized for the war, Jean Stelli finished the film. It was not until 1942 he produced with the last trump his first independent feature film as a director.

Among his best known films include his prison drama " The Hole ", " When night falls in Paris" with Jean Gabin and " Golden Helmet " with Simone Signoret. Jacques Becker is the father of French director Jean Becker. From 1957 until his death he was married to the actress Françoise Fabian.
