Jacques Boyer

Jonathan " Jacques " and " Jock " Boyer ( born October 8, 1955 in Moab, Utah ) is a former American professional cyclist.

Jonathan Boyer, called " Jacques " or " Jock ", was a professional cyclist from 1977 to 1987 and the first American, who took part in the Tour de France. Overall, he launched 1981-1987 five times in the Tour; his best finish was twelfth overall in 1983. 1980 he finished fifth at the Road World Championships of professionals in Sallanches and won the Coors Classic. In 1985, he won the Race Across America and could this success in 2006 in the age group 50-59 repeat again.

Boyer was an outsider in the peloton because he is a vegetarian, preferably feeds on nuts and fruit and often reads as a professing Christian in the Bible.

In November 2002, Boyer was sentenced to 20 years in prison for corruption of minors, what to one year in prison and five years probation was later reduced. Since 2007 he lives most of the year in Rwanda, where he manages a cycling team.

1998 Jonathan Boyer was recorded under the name of Jacques Boyer in the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame.
