Jacques Bretel

Jacques or Jacques Bretel Bretex was a troubadour French late 13th century. More detailed biographical data are unknown.

The only surviving work by him is Le Tournoi de Chauvency ( The Turnie of Chauvency ), which was signed by him and dated with the year 1285. It is a long poem, about 4,500 verses, in which he describes the process of a six -day tournament, which was held by the Count of Chiny in October 1285 Chauvency -le- Château. The poem in French of the 13th century, mixed with Lorraine dialect forms, is one of the masterpieces of French literature of the Middle Ages.
