Jacques d'Arthois

Jacques d' Arthois (* 1613 in Brussels, † 1686) was a Flemish landscape painter.

Jacques d' Arthois, a pupil of Jan Mertens, formed by the landscape painters of Peter Paul Rubens ' school, especially afterJan Wildens. Powerful coloring, energetic, and often crude brushwork are peculiar to him. His pictures, mostly of large proportions, were painted decoration with depictions of the sacred history, like searching for churches and monasteries. David Teniers the Younger, Gaspar de Crayer and other painters worked together with him. His preliminary drafts he took particularly the Sonian Forest, which is why they suffer from a certain uniformity. In almost all major galleries you meet at work from him.
