Jacques des Rousseaux

Jacques de Rousseaux, Jacques de Rousseau ( * 1600 in Tourcoing, † May 5, 1638 in Leiden ) was a Dutch painter of French origin.

Jacques de Rousseaux is a little-known painter from the Rembrandt area. In the older literature it is often referred as an apprentice Rembrandt, which is, however, rejected by modern research, as it is a few years older than this. More than one work as an independent artist in the Rembrandt workshop is being considered as possible. But this assumption is valid only as hypothetical and not supported by any. In contrast, a large stylistic proximity points to the early works of Jan Lievens, so it's probably more likely that he Rousseaux more geared to this.

Apart from a few exceptions, he seems to have mainly painted Tronien.
