Jacques Lauriston

Alexandre- Jacques- Bernard Law, marquis de Lauriston ( born February 1, 1768 in Pondicherry, India, † June 11, 1828 in Paris) was a French general and Marshal of France.

Life

Lauriston was Bonaparte's companion on the artillery school at Brienne and one great-nephew John Laws. He joined the army in 1785 and was already 1795 artillery colonel. After the 18th Brumaire he was appointed by the First Consul to the General Staff, in 1801 was appointed adjutant and soon to brigadier general.

1805 commissioned to take Venice and Dalmatia in possession, he claimed in Ragusa against a considerable preponderance and was named after the Peace of Tilsit Governor General of Venice. In 1808 he went to the army to Spain, fought at Wagram in 1809 with honors and went in 1811 as envoy extraordinary to Saint Petersburg.

In the Russian campaign in 1812 he came in Smolensk to the French army, commanded the rear guard on the retreat and organized in winter 1813 in Magdeburg, the 5th Army Corps, on whose head he mitmachte the campaign of 1813. When he after blowing up the bridge over the White Elster swam in the Battle of Leipzig by the river, he fell into the enemy's hands, after which he was transferred to Berlin.

After the Restoration returned to France, he paid homage to Louis XVIII. and was promoted to lieutenant commander for the Mousquetaires gris. During the Hundred Days, he retired to his estates; was after the return of the king commander of the 1st Infantry Division of the Guard, 1820 Minister of the royal house and Marshal, in command of the expedition to Spain in 1823, the 2nd Reserve Corps and retired in 1824 from public office back.

Alexandre- Jacques- Bernard Law, marquis de Lauriston died on 11 June 1828 in Paris.
