Jacques Pellegrin

Jacques Pellegrin ( born June 12, 1873 in Paris, † August 12, 1944 in Paris) was a French herpetologist and ichthyologist.

Life

Pellegrin studied natural history. In 1894 he was a taxidermist at the Department of Zoology at the Paris National Museum of Natural History, instead of Léon Vaillant ( 1834-1914 ).

He successfully took theses ago in Medicine ( 1899) and science ( 1904). In 1908 he was appointed deputy chairman of the department.

After many research trips mostly in the French colonies, he was vice chairman of the museum in 1937, and replaced Louis Roule as the Executive Board responsible for Herpetology and Ichthyology.

He has published over 600 scientific monographs and journals and discovered around 350 new species. Pellegrin named a number of species of fish from the family Cichlidae. In addition, several species have been given in his honor with epithets. example: Geophagus pellegrini.
