Jacques Santer

Jacques Santer ( born May 18, 1937 in Cheap water ) is a Luxembourgian politician of the Christian Social People's Party as well as honorary Minister of State of Luxembourg.

Luxembourg policy

After a cabinet reshuffle on September 19, 1972 Jacques Santer joined by June 15, 1974 as Secretary of State in the Government Werner - Schaus one. In 1974 he was elected party president of the Christian Social People's Party. He held that post until 1982. On 16 July 1979 he was sworn in as finance and labor and social affairs minister in the government Werner - Thorn. On July 20, 1984, he became prime minister and finance minister. In 1989 he gave the Minister of Finance and Treasury Minister and Minister was of Cultural Affairs ( until January 1995).

International offices

He was also a 1984-1989 member of the Board of Governors of the World Bank and from 1991 to 1994 Governor of the International Monetary Fund.

Offices in the European Union

Santer on 23 January 1995 President of the European Commission. A report on alleged corruption cases, which affected some EU commissioners, led on 15 March 1999 on the resignation of actually appointed until September entire Santer Commission, the Commission followed her Marin.

From 1975 to 1979 he was a member of the European Parliament and Vice- President. He was then again in 1999 Member of the European Parlamtes and 2002 Member of the European Convention. Both he held until 2004, since then he has been a member of the Board of RTL Group.

Since May 2013, Santer honorary member of SME Europe, the official business wing of the European People's Party.
