Jade Buddha Temple

The Jade Buddha Temple (Chinese玉佛 禅寺, Pinyin YUFO Chán Sì, Jade Buddha Chan Temple ') is a Buddhist temple in Shanghai's Jing'an District ( PRC ). It was founded in 1882 with two jade Buddha statues brought from Burma by sea to Shanghai.

The seated Buddha statue is 1.95 meters high and weighs 3 tons. The smaller, lying Buddha statue represents Buddha's death dar. In the temple there is also an even larger reclining Buddha statue from Singapore, which is often confused with the other Buddha statue.

History

During the reign of the Emperor Guang Xu Qing (1875-1908) undertook Hui gene, a monk of Putuo Shan, a pilgrimage to Tibet and Burma. Chen Jun- Pu, an overseas Chinese, the five Buddha statues made ​​of jade there gave him. Two of the statues brought Hui gene back to Shanghai and had built a temple with donations.

The present temple was built after the revolution of 1911 in the period from 1918 to 1928 under Abbot Ke Chen.

Another of the five Buddha statues located in Beijing in the Hall of enlightenment ( Cheng Guang Dian ).

The temple is one of the National Chinese Buddhism temple of focus on Han Chinese territory.
