Jadwiga Łuszczewska

Jadwiga Łuszczewska, pseudonym: Deotyma ( born July 1, 1834 in Warsaw, † September 23, 1908 in Warsaw) was a Polish writer and poet of the Romantic period.

Origin

Deotyma is the daughter of the State Council, treasurer and Imperial Russian Kammerjunker Waclaw Łuszczewski Josef (1806-1867) and the granddaughter of the Polish Minister John Paul Łuszczewski ( 1764-1812 ). About his grandmother Constance Jauch and their offspring she is a second cousin of the Polish writer, author of Quo Vadis Henryk Sienkiewicz and Nobel Prize winner for literature (1848-1916) and a distant niece of the Polish freedom fighter Joachim Lelewel ( 1786-1861 ). Her mother was the Magdalena Gen. Nina Łuszczewska born Zoltowska (1806-1869), which maintained an important literary salon. Her grandfather was the Brigadier General Edward Józef Zoltowski (1775-1841), who fought in the Polish Army Corps under Józef Antoni Poniatowski on the part of Napoleon and was among other participants in the Battle of Berezina and the Battle of Leipzig.

Work

Deotyma maintained a significant literary salon in the tradition of their parents house and was next to her literary work known as impromptu poet.

Her best-known work is the novel " The Girl at the Window", filmed in 1964 under the direction of Kaniewski and premiered in 1968 as an opera of Paciorkiewicz.
